SPOKANE AQUIFER MAPS
I did an internship with the Spokane Joint Aquifer Board and helped them create maps to figure out the location of businesses that could be potential contaminate points that aligned with the various well capture zones for the aquifers. This project consisted of the use of sensitive data therefore none of the information on where the well capture zones are is included in the maps. This internship was very beneficial to my GIS skills and the original maps show my ability to use and manipulate labels and not only did I look at where the points fell when it came to the aquifer zone, but I had to do a parcel intersect to ensure that every point was accounted for, such as if the point was outside the aquifer zone but the business's parcel still was over the aquifer zone, then it was included as a potential contaminate point. An example of how I did the project is illustrated in the Sample Well Capture Zone map.
Aquifer data was downloaded from Spokane County GIS.
The sample map has a sample well, a sample well capture zone, and sample potential contaminate points made up of fictitious businesses. It provides an overview similar to the maps that I made for the SJAB. It illustrates how specific points were chosen based on whether their parcel overlapped with the well capture zone.
All the data used was created by me and in no way affiliates with the legit Spokane Aquifers or Spokane Businesses.
